There are numerous reasons a patient may require a breast implant replacement. In some cases, they may want to change the size to make it bigger or smaller, or they could be swapping out for routine maintenance. In more rare circumstances, the implant may have a defect that needs to be replaced.

Breast implant replacement surgery will vary depending on the patient and their unique set of reasons behind the procedure. Most often, breast implant replacement is similar to the original augmentation using general anesthesia. During the procedure, the implant is removed and replaced with a new one. Depending on the changes being made, the secondary surgery could be more or less painful than the original, though the second time is usually easier.
